1. **Qur’an Evidence:**
**Surah An-Nur, Surah 24, Ayah 2**
The [unmarried] woman or [unmarried] man found guilty of sexual intercourse—lash each one of them with a hundred lashes, and do not be taken by pity for them in the religion of Allah, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. And let a group of the believers witness their punishment.
**Simple Meaning:**
Allah commands that those who commit zina (fornication) get punished with 100 lashes if they are unmarried. This shows zina is a serious sin.
2. **Hadith Evidence:**
**Hadith Source:** Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6810
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Zina is not lawful except between a man and a woman [who are married], and if a man commits zina, he is for the man, and if a woman commits zina, she is for the woman." (meaning punishment applies accordingly)
**Simple Explanation:**
The Prophet ﷺ explained zina is only between a man and woman not married. The sin and punishment belong to them.
3. **Madhhab Views:**

- **Hanbali:** Same view; lashes for unmarried and stoning for married.
4. **Where They Agree:**

All agree 100 lashes for unmarried and stoning for married.
5. **Why Differences May Appear:**
Some details on proof or conditions may vary, but the main rulings are the same.
