1. **Niyyah (Intention):** You quietly say in your heart what prayer you will pray.
2. **Takbir:** Raise your hands and say Allahu Akbar (الله أكبر) which means "Allah is the Greatest".
3. **Qiyam and Surah Al-Fatiha:** Stand and say Surah Al-Fatiha:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ﴿1﴾ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ ﴿2﴾ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ﴿3﴾ مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ ﴿4﴾ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ ﴿5﴾ اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ ﴿6﴾ صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ ﴿7﴾
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us on the Straight Path. The path of those who have received Your grace; not the path of those who have brought down wrath upon themselves, nor of those who have gone astray.
Say another short Surah or some verses from the Qur'an.
4. **Ruku (Bowing):** Bow and say "Subhana Rabbiyal Azeem" (سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ) meaning "Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great" 3 times.
5. **Qaumah (Standing up):** Stand straight and say "Sami' Allahu liman hamidah" (سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ) which means "Allah hears those who praise Him", then say "Rabbana lakal hamd" (رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ) meaning "Our Lord, to You is all praise".
6. **Sujud (Prostration):** Prostrate and say "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" (سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الأَعْلَى) meaning "Glory is to my Lord, the Most High" 3 times.
7. **Sitting between two prostrations:** Sit and say "Rabbighfir li" (رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي) meaning "My Lord, forgive me".
8. **Second Sujud:** Prostrate again and say "Subhana Rabbiyal A'la" 3 times.
9. **Tashahhud (Sitting):** After the last cycle, sit and say the Tashahhud:
التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
All greetings, prayers and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and all of Allah’s righteous servants. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.
10. **Salam (Ending):** Turn your head to the right and say "Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah" (السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ) meaning "Peace and mercy of Allah be upon you", then turn your head to the left and repeat.
**Takeaway:** Salat is talking to Allah with respect and love. Try to pray calmly and remember Allah is listening.
